Didn't Think Hollywood Could GET Any More Narcissistic

Before I rant, yes I think Viola Davis is a good actress. I thought she was great in The Help. Didn't see her Oscar winning role though. But congrats to her.

I love the arts. I have many favorite films. They've brought me, like millions of people, joy, laughter, tears, etc. I love books and music. I appreciate that art enhances our lives. A beautiful painting, a gripping novel, a moving piece of music, good comedy, drama, etc. all take us to another place for a while, relax and refresh us.

But really! For her to say "thank God I became an artist, but we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life." WHAT?

Are you freaking kidding me??? I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt and think she was overcome by emotion and didn't realize the idiocy of her statement.

Sure, the arts, movies, books, music, even TV, LOL, add flavor and joy to our lives. Entertainment is as old as humanity. But the unbridled arrogance! I guess that leaves out doctors, nurses, EMT workers, the military, farmers, the clergy and teachers. Cops and firefighters must be doing it for the glory and the big fat paycheck and the award shows THEY get every year. And I guess all those who volunteer their time in soup kitchens, church programs, mentoring kids, etc, don't celebrate life either.

"No other profession celebrates what it means to live a life" or did she mean to say "No other profession is as celebrated as we are, a bunch of overpaid self congratulating narcissists who give each other awards and standing ovations for playing pretend by reciting lines someone else has written."

As Tom Selleck said many years ago, "It aint brain surgery."

My late father was a plumber and many times he was called by someone late at night with a broken furnace in the dead of winter. He didn't make a speech about going out to fix their problem because he "celebrated life". I remember asking him why he had to go so late and all he'd say was "I can't let people freeze." But he didn't have a tuxedo or a trophy for his mantle, so I guess he didn't understand how important life was.

Well I am ranting, sorry. But on the heels of tearful Streep's phony Golden Globe meltdown, I have had it up to here with the self-importance of these people. Do they really think they are THAT important to humanity?

Although this is now years old....this post is still relevant and I agree, agree and agree!

Her oscar speech made me puke.

Apparently she know believes she's the "black Meryl Streep".😐

I SAW THAT MOVIE...IT WASNT THE REAL MERYL STREEP...SPOILER ALERT...IT WAS REAL BLACK THOUGH🙂

Yeah, she seems as vain and self-absorbed as Hollywood celebrities get. She's not even that good an actress (her performance in Fences was textbook Oscar bait style acting), and she's fricking ugly as well. I honestly don't know how she keeps getting hired.

I read her book. She detailed her difficult life. But it could have been done in a less vulgar and at times gross way. If she wanted to share its most difficult aspects she succeeded.
She fought hard and received a lot of help. Probably much more (help) than she thinks.
