Ferry was one of the most influential rockers of the 70's.

I'd put him second only after Bowie.

But I'll be magnanimous because I admit most would put him only in the top ten.

Ferry & Roxy Music crafted and defined experimental art rock.

reply

He certainly was one of the names.

I couldn't believe there were no posts on Ferry's board. Surely there was discussion here on IMDb which would have been imported?

reply

That is a surprise. I would have thought so.

reply

Yeah, I've been going around trying to start at least some discussion on various boards. I still have my doubts that IMDb didn't have threads on this board.

Not by MovieChat. Try FilmBoards.

That place is a clique of about 50 mostly trolls. You can't start any worthwhile discussions there. MovieChat has about 300 daily posters and tens of thousands who stop in. I'll stick with MovieChat.

I don't think Roxy Music was ever much known in North America. I only knew them for one song -- Love is the Drug in the 70s.

In the 80s they became somewhat more well known for Avalon, More Than This. Slave to Love was was used in a soundtrack which upped their visibility somewhat, but not so much that they became a big thing over here.

Their music had this lush ethereal quality to it which I don't think quite gelled with North American audiences. I lived in England for a couple of years in the late 80s so I was more exposed to their music then.

Not surprising then that Ferry was featured on the end credits to the Ridley Scott movie "Legend"

"Lush ethereal quality". Damn, you describe it well.

I'm American and I was one of the hip kids who knew Roxy Music. Lol. Yes, sadly most Americans have never heard of them. But they were a superstar band in Britain.

Across the board American rock has been light years behind British rock since the 1960's. They are the innovators in rock since the so-called "British Invasion".
