Why is he such

an incredible prick to Vin Diesel? He recently called Diesel manipulative after Diesel's latest attempt to extend an olive branch.

I always liked Dwayne. He was entertaining as hell as a wrestler and has some decent movies (and a lot of bad ones too). Seems nice publicly too. Diesel has done nothing but try to squash the beef. He's never spoken out badly about Johnson and Jonson is just such an asshole towards Diesel.

Tyrese also had problems with Johnson too. Johson gets more support because he's more popular, but he appears to be the one in the wrong.

Rumors he and Statham didn't get along either:

Creative differences and possibly wants to get into politics... He's cordial in his responses for the most part at least. If he doesn't want to return to earn easy $$$ then that's on him. Dunno why Vin needs to involve Pablo (Paul) and his kids though. Vin will do fine without him either way. I just want to see that next Riddick movie that I am excited about.

reply

I know they have creative difference, that's not the point. They each obviously want to be the main star, but it's Vin's franchise. That's also not the point.

Vin has literally never said a bad thing publicly about Dwayne and has done absolutely nothing but attempted to squash the beef and the Rock is just a dick about it. And as I pointed out, he's not the only person who say the Rock is a problem on set.

reply

Rock has an ego, and he loves to crack jokes so it's a good chance that we may not see them do anything together again until they're 60 year old men regretting to each other that they couldn't work things out sooner, or maybe they'll never be on the same screen again. Either way both will be just fine.

When it comes down to it they still have something out there together that'll never be forgotten by their fanbases. Fast 5. The stuff aftwards that they did was decent too imo, but if you ask me Fast 5 as a stand alone movie will forever be those two togethers legacy.

I suspect you didn't read your references.

Remember him back peddling on supporting someone not that long ago?

Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Drop the doms2cents link. That one says they're friends (but due to the article's presentation, pretty sure the claim is full of shit regardless and so, nonconclusive there).

People feel the need to take sides, and so they feel the need to paint one as a good guy and one as a bad guy. In reality I think they both have huge egos and different character flaws

Vin Diesel, based on his shitty filmography, I would guess the rumors are true and he's a lazy prima donna

The Rock, based on his non-stop branding and creepy positivity, I would guess is not a relatable human being

You have two opposites: one who likes to let himself go and is sloppy at work and the other who is a neat freak in every facet of his life (except maybe artistically)

I view Vin Diesel as almost an Adam Sandler type, except less talented or likeable. But probably also mostly just works so he can continue to live his leisurely lifestyle. The Rock is hyper-ambitious, and those two personality types are not going to get along well at all

The Rock is a grown man. He doesn't need to do any movies he doesn't want to do and he doesn't need to accept Vin Diesel's olive branches. It's not like we know what really went on between them. And I think that Diesel was being passive aggressive when he called The Rock his "little brother". That being said, if The Rock were not so obsessed with his squeaky clean image he could just be public about what really went on between them

I think it'll all come out years from now and we'll be able to more clearly judge them and gossip

reply

"He doesn't need to do any movies he doesn't want to do and he doesn't need to accept Vin Diesel's olive branches."

Why would he not? Someone says "Sorry, let's end this" and you decline? The Rock just comes off like a major asshole in this scenario. He doesn't have to do any movies, but to just reject a guy's attempt to make amends? You're a dick. He could have just said, "We're cool, but I've moved on from the movies." Especially since at least 2 people (Diesel and Gibson) have had issues with Johnson and a rumored 3rd (Statham). No one else from this franchise or others has said anything bad about Diesel.

And I guarantee you this beef is over almost nothing. Rock wanted to be the star, but it's Vin's franchise, so he said no. Rock got mad. It's nothing deep or awful, which makes him refusing to patch things up all the more petty.

There's a lot of ego among actors, so it's a given that some will clash. I wouldn't take Diesel's silence as proof of his complicity or as proof Johnson is in the wrong, either. But this situation does give very Sarah Jessica Parker/Kim Cattrall vibes.

Behind the scenes, it was well documented that Sarah Jessica Parker, the lead of the Sex and the City franchise, was hostile toward Cattrall, but in public presented a serene, friendly persona whenever addressing her co-star, often in interviews and later on social media. Cattrall repeatedly called out her bs and for a time was disbelieved because she was considered egotistic and jealous of Parker's centrality in the franchise. People have now heard a lot more of the story and Cattrall is now acknowledged as telling the truth.

I think Johnson is the Cattrall in this situation, but time will always tell and people can settle their differences.

reply

The thing that The Rock has been critiqued about is him wanting to steal the spotlight for himself, as evident in the Fast franchise and his DCEU take over bid.
