One Of My Many Problems With This Bozo: He Promulgated The Myth That New York Is The Most Important City On Earth

New York was, once upon a time, long ago. The mantle has passed to Hong Kong. Norman Mailer wrote that “New York is the capitol of the twentieth century.”
Hong Kong is the capitol of the twenty-first century; but Marvel stories take place, on Earth at least, in the Tired Apple.

Parochial, insular, unimaginative poppycock.

lol Hong Kong

reply

wasn't that King Kong's brother?

reply

People who live in New York think it's the most important city on Earth. Not so much everybody else.

reply

ENJOY LIVING IN HONG KONG...N.Y. & L.A. ARE THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT CITIES ON THE PLANET.

reply

I thought that Bejing was THE city of the 21st century.

As for Mr. Lee, well, all New Yorkers think that. There's no convincing them otherwise, even when their ghastly city is visited by plagues.

Cute, but you do realize that Stan Lee created all of these silly characters way back in the 20th Century rigth?

You Zillennials are so temporally arrogant I bet you make your CrampPa wince with embarassment.

I would agree New York is far from the center of the universe... but then so is Hong Kong.

Reality is with technology allowing people to connect from afar all cities have lost their importance. Frankly the world would be a better place if elevators were banned and every sky scraper was torn down. Large cities do nothing of value today and create a huge problem with massive concentrations of people into a small area. Want to see pandemics spread quickly? Look in a city with the highest concentrations of people per square mile. Cities are a threat to humanity.

As for Stan Lee what was someone that had lived so many years in New York supposed to do write comics about thing happening in Dallas, London or Moscow? A writer writes about places he is familiar with, when someone in Hong Kong is able to craft a story of their own they can set it in Hong Kong, but right now all you get from Hong Kong and China are ripoffs of western stories because the Chinese are too stupid to come up with anything on their own the just make bad copies of western things.

reply

Hong Kong was going great until China took it over.

Hard to argue with New York as the most important city. It's sure not London or Paris or Rome or Berlin.
