I was ambivalent about Seth Rogen for awhile because he's basically a set piece with the gravitas of a sofa and one of those actors that you see and think, "Anyone off the street could play that part. Why does this guy keep getting hired?"
Then I learned about what a lunatic and pretentious asshole the guy is (not in the political name calling sense, but literally a lunatic) from some random videos like the one linked above and that pretty much filled in the blanks for his nothing on screen personality.
But yeah, Seth Rogen sucks ass.
Chances are, he comes from one of those Jewish families that has been in showbiz for several generations with money and connections, so the only reason he got anywhere was because his relatives had friends in different parts of Hollyweird that could get him what he wanted, rather than him having to actually work for it on his own merit. Normally guys like him would never have gotten anywhere near Hollywood with the lack of talent he possesses.
To be fair, he hasn't made very many noteworthy films, and I think that "Interview" film was the death knell for what little career he had in directing and producing, considering it brought the wrath of North Korea down on Sony Pictures. I mean, who wants to work with a no-talent asshole whose movie pissed off a hostile country overseas?
Specifics aside, that's pretty much my assessment as well.

How about Seth Rogen going off on a kid that posted for people to vote or threatening to drive to Hawaii to fight Tulsi Gabbard? The guy definitely seems like a psychologically unstable asshole and/or brain damaged and for me at least that overshadows his rather forgettable on screen appearances. If he was a solid actor who was also a nutjob it would be easier to overlook those faults.

As an aside I watched that Will Ferell serious acting role movie you referred me to on the Joe Pesci thread and thoroughly enjoyed it. I won't go so far as to say I like the guy as an actor now, but that was a solid performance there and I was sincerely surprised and impressed. Thanks for turning me onto that one.

Easy as it is for us to criticize from afar, let's not pretend that most of us wouldn't do exactly the same thing, were we in Rogen's shoes. When you're 40something, have no marketable skills beyond entertainment, and you're entire career is on the line, you do whatever you have to do to maintain that career
Because he's a loser that doesn't have much going for him these days in the film industry, and he probably doesn't have much of a personality, so he grafts onto his political identity to give himself some kind of purpose as well as attention, despite how pathetic it is.
Honestly, the only reason I think he ever got anywhere in Hollywood was due to his connections, because his films were terrible and he's a very immature, dumb, childish guy in person.
