Trump doesn't want it known that he and Whitaker have been planning Sessions' replacement in advance. When he's put on the spot on a subject he'd prefer to avoid, he just lies. It's pathological.

Maybe they're turning him down behind the scenes. Or maybe he doesn't think he can get one more compliant than the interim one he's got.
