Steve Howey, an actor on Showtime’s “Shameless,” posted a message on Twitter Thursday comparing President Obama to the Ebola virus.

The tweet was later deleted, but, as TMZ.com first reported, it was retweeted by several Twitter users who blasted the 37-year-old television star for the quip.

"Shameless" star Steve Howey can forget about any future White House invitations ... because he blasted President Barack Obama with an Ebola joke that ended up backfiring.

Howey tweeted on Thursday ... "People shouldn't be so scared about this virus from Africa. He only has two more years of his presidency."

Too soon? Howey, or his publicist ... must've thought so after the fact, since he eventually deleted the tweet, but the damage was done. Several of his followers retweeted it, and most of them found it offensive.

We reached out to Howey's rep ... so far, no word back.

Coming from the middle, I believe proof that not all conservatives vote blindly can be found in the 2008 election. Before McCain had a VP candidate, he led in every poll. When they first announced Palin for VP, they got a boost. After Republicans found out how much of an idiot Palin actually was, he lost a huge chunk of votes.
