OK, I just watched the video (I rarely follow links off-site) and that is shocking.

No, there was never a time in my life when I thought the moon and sun were the same. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt (like maybe she was just trying to be funny) but she really seemed to have believed that.
I suspected you had not seen the video. I don't think she was kidding, either. Even if she was, why would she go on Fallon's show and pretend a monumental level of ignorance?

Trying to paint a better picture here - hear me out.
As dumb as that comment (and belief) is and was, at least to her credit she didn't argue about it like flatearthers, 9/11 "truthers", and Apollo deniers do. At least she can admit she was wrong and accept the truth.
Those examples you gave are belief systems used by misguided people to rationalize their world view. It's not the same at all.
She simply didn't know something any child knows and which is quite obvious. I am not sure anyone has to be taught than any more than they need to be taught dogs and cats aren't the same animal.
She was proud of the story. I think that is worse than the conspiracy nuts.
