None of you were going to watch the damn play so why get upset at things that don't affect you?

Literally going out of your way to find things to get angry at.

Oh no a black person got cast in a role, somebody call the cops!

reply

Oh, because they're highly cultured, hip and happening theatre people who love Jacobean and Elizabethan drama when it's performed properly -- and they know that Shakespeare intended for Juliet to look exactly like Claire Danes and to have no understanding of iambic pentameter so she garbles all her lines.

They don't want Shakespeare's original intentions ruined by a classically trained actor who has performed at The Globe and for the National Theatre unless that actor is Robert Gough.

reply

Exactly! Who gives a crap?

Some people aren't happy unless they're bitching about something.

reply

If she looked like Zoe Saldana I’m sure nobody would be complaining. It’s mostly because this particular black actress is very ugly and looks like a man. Try not to always assume it’s because of skin color.

reply

Casting Tom Hardy as Frederick Douglass doesn't affect anyone either.

And yet...

*affect

What?

reply

Juliet is a fictional character

reply

So is your brain.

Because most mopes who have shit to say about casting are so fucking backwards and petty, the never leave the schoolyard. They think every traditionally prominent role, in life and in art, is determined by a popularity contest. And it defines the popularity of the race and gender of the person casted in that role. They believe that if they see someone of a different colour or gender from those traditionally, or most recently, considered for that role or type of role, they are being given a false impression of the popularity and worth of that race that simply cannot be true.
