I must say her resemblance to fish is uncanny

Casting director must have smelled an opportunity when she opened her legs on his couch.

reply

Idk making fun of her looks feels similar to pushing a wheelchair driver down the stairs
Of course its easy and perhaps even fun but she's already at the bottom y'know

reply

Hey, but fun!

reply

She doesn't look anything like a fish. She is beautiful and did a great job in the film.

reply

she ain't ugly but she's far from beautiful , just an average looking girl , they could've chosen someone prettier to play Ariel to be honest.

reply

Who would you suggest to play Ariel?

reply

Anyone who looked like the character we expect.

reply

Such as? Keep in mind she would have to be in the right age range and be able to sing and be at least a decent actor.

reply

It's not like Halle was some big movie star before this. There are thousands of unknown actress that would have fit that criteria.

reply

Why all those requirements? According to your own standards she doesn't even have to look a thing like Ariel.

reply

If they had cast someone who is too old, it wouldn't have been believable and would have taken away from the story. If they cast someone who wasn't a good singer, it would have made the movie a lot less enjoyable.

reply

Casting someone who doesn't look a thing like the iconic character and doesn't even look white (or like the character's father!) is also not believable and takes away from the story.

They could've always gone Bollywood style with her singing voice being dubbed. Your standards make no sense.

reply

She doesn't need to be white. She captured the spirit of the character, the personality, and the voice and those are the most important elements of the character.

reply

In case you weren't aware of how poorly this performed and how much negative feedback this casting choice recieved, it appears those aren't the most important elements.

reply

The negative feedback was mostly from people who hadn't seen the film. I'm aware of how it performed and I don't think it was Halle Bailey's fault.

reply

They saw her, that's the discussion at hand. Seeing the entirety of the film is irrelevant, and as I said, their response to her portrayal speaks for itself. People saw her, they didn't like the casting choice, and this movie bombed as a result. The facts support me rather than you.

reply

You can't judge the performance without seeing the film. If people are saying she was miscast or the wrong choice, but haven't seen the film, their opinion is meaningless.

reply

That is a wildly inaccurate mindset. And again, the box office bomb that it is says it all. People didn't identify with her as Ariel. They heavily advertised this version, and people didn't want it, period.

reply

"She doesn't need to be white."

Bullshit. The original Ariel is white (and a redhead) and so is the mermaid in the original fairy tale. It's a more important requirement than those you mentioned. This isn't about some random mermaid. If this had been Splash 2, they could've done whatever they wanted.

Age shouldn't matter either if the actress captures the spirit of the character. Same goes for a dubbed singing voice. Your standards are inconsistent.

reply

Just because she was white in the original doesn't mean she needs to be white in this version. Her age is more important as it plays a central role in the story. If Ariel looked like she was 35, then the whole story would not make sense. Ariel's race is completely irrelevant to the film and I can't fathom any valid reason why people would object considering it is a fictional fantasy character. The story works just as well, no matter what race Ariel is.

reply

"Just because she was white in the original doesn't mean she needs to be white in this version."

Nonsense. This is an iconic character whose appearance has been used in many promotions and merchandise. The way she looks IS important. This isn't some modern-day adaptation by a different company.

There are 30-year olds who could pass for teens, it's not as important as you make it out to be. Especially if the actress does a good job. Don't forget that Jodi Benson was also almost 30.

"I can't fathom any valid reason why people would object"

I can't fathom any valid reason why Ariel can't stay a white redhead.

"The story works just as well"

It also works just as well with an older actress with a dubbed singing voice, so your argument sucks.

reply

Ariel's race is not an essential part of the story. You have a strange obsession with the race of animated characters in films. It's concerning.

reply

The actual age or singing voice of the actress is not an essential part of the story, so again, your argument sucks.

"You have a strange obsession with the race of animated characters in films."

Of course, deflection by ad hominem when you've got no argument. Funny coming from the guy who has a strange obsession with little girls, lol!

Tell D-feet I said hi!🍆

reply

I will tell D-feet that you send him hugs and kisses.

reply

If he wants those, he can come get them in my basement.💥

reply

Sounds hot. Can I watch?

reply

Are you sure that's hot enough for you? Minors are not allowed in my basement, you know.

reply

You mean I can't bring all my little friends? I'll have to pass then.

reply

If those little friends of yours are the 7 dwarfs of Snow White, they're very much welcome. I don't discriminate against little people like Disney does!

reply

What a cruel and disgusting post.

reply

Dude, all your posts are disgusting because of your name.

reply

Whatever makes you feel better about your nasty post.

reply

?the fish bitch? Go suck her papilla and leave us humans the fuck alone.

reply

Nah, sounds like your favorite thing to do. Your posts prove you are as far from human as one can get. Go get a job, a hobby, something to relieve you from your obviously very miserable and lonely life.
