What do you think of her as an actress?

She's a good looking girl and I've not heard anything bad about her personal life so I have no hard feelings towards her but honestly as an actress she's a charisma void.

I'm not one for slamming poor acting, half the movies I watch are low budget horror movies with 'poor acting' and I'm the sort of guy who thinks Gal Gadot is superb (she has charisma and I don't understand the poor acting criticisms) but from watching GOT and the X-men movies I have to say Sophie Turner just isn't that good of an actress.

Famke Janssen isn't exactly heralded as an brilliant acting talent, though I'm a big fan of her and think she does a great job is slightly comedic roles (GoldenEye, Deep Rising, The Faculty, House on Haunted Hill) but damn she's leagues better as Jean Grey than Sophie. The difference is night and day.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is mediocre as hell and a large part of it is because Sophie was the lead and main character. She just wasn't cut out for it. Though I will say in her defence that Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence were meh in that movie too so perhaps the direction wasn't up to scratch.

Still I haven't been impressed by her acting at any point. She can't act for toffee, sorry to say.

She's sitcom co-star material, not lead actress, she lacks the charisma.

Something tells me she is much like the character she played in Game of Thrones, an ordinary type of girl who found herself in a situation with a lot of power without really wanting it or trying for it.

I recommend "Barely Lethal", it is not a good movie but she looked great in it.

Given how charming she is in real life, I think a lot of her acting roles are just not meaty or developed enough to showcase her talent. She barely has any lines in the X-Men films and even from what I have seen of GoT, which I admittedly haven't watched in its entirety, she's clearly been typecast as the quietly powerful person due to this role and as such is not given that much to do. And yet she still did pretty pretty brilliantly having started GoT at age 14, so I think we just haven't seen her in a role that lets her show off her acting chops to a great extent yet.

Famke Janssen I genuinely don't think is a strong actress, like she has the look of a star, but not the talent. Gal Gadot makes up for her average talent with her winning personality, something Famke doesn't do and Sophie can't do on account of being typecast as the strong silent type.

So I think the best thing to do is wait and see. I'd love for her to be put in the perfect role, the same way Christina Hendricks was hired for Joan in Mad Men, coz I can see that catapulting her back into the limelight quite easily.

They don't give lines to bad actresses. The less said, the better.

Guess Anthony Hopkins should return his Oscar for Silence of the Lamb then huh.

Ah, a false equivalent, boring.

reply

Proud of you for knowing what a false equivalent is, but surprised you've never heard of sexism in Hollywood, it's a pretty common thing. But you've watched movies. You know they give plenty of lines to bad actresses and they stifle the careers of actresses they don't happen to like or who don't like them, so how you can even make that point and then stand behind it is kooky. But sure, I guess that's more "fun" than the truth.

Not every child actor is a good adult actor.

Every actor can shine with good director and role. We saw many cases of bad bland actors finding right role and be good in it.

Sophie Turner has to find that role. And she probably should stop going for lead roles ans settle for supporting. Not every actor is a lead material.

Yep, she is just blah. Nothing special in her acting or presence she just seems too ordinary.
