What I don't get is, why would you want to be an ugly looking female when you could be an ugly looking male.
Ugly guys are a dime a dozen and no one notices them, ugly women stand out like Kowalski at a midget convention.
Their face looked fine as a man. Maybe a little bit IT nerd looking but not an ugly person. The stubble likely helped, they suited a slightly bearded look.
