Quality of new DVD

At last, "Sunrise" has been released on DVD, as part of a 'Fox classics' box set. I'd like to buy this, but I am wary. The only copy of 'Sunrise' I has ever seen was a horribly poor, dirty, scratchy print, made worse by a bad VHS transfer. I could see that 'Sunrise' was incredibly beautiful film once, but only by imagining away the accumilated murk of many decades.
If anyone has seen the new DVD, could you tell me whether it presents a restored print? I want to see this film as beautiful as it originally was, as I'm not prepared to keep using my imagination!

I just bought it for about 13 bucks. Excellent deal for 4 classics. The pearl of the package is "All About Eve" but "Sunrise" and "How Green Was My Valley" are great pictures as well. I'd skip "Gentleman's Agreement" that looks like the "Crash" of the 40's.

Buy it if you want to add "Sunrise" or the other films to your collection.

The surviving print was duplicated from the original print, "warts and all". I find it to be a very fine transfer indeed! How nice it must have been to work restoring this great movie!

I purchased mine from Amazon for 27 bucks and change. You get the exact same disc you would if you buy it in the set, but by buying Sunrise alone, the disc doesn't have to "share" a case with any others. At the time, I wasn't interested in any of the other movies, but the price would have been the same either way.

Now if you have a region free player, you could buy the Masters Of Cinema copy. Pretty much the same thing, except it comes with a 40 page booklet. I'd love to see what's in that!
