That's pathetic. No band members to chill with? No women around Lucy's age to go shopping with?

Ethel was around Lucy's age. There were 2 years apart in real life.

Try watching the show. Lucy and Ricky were friends with other couples, it's just that Ethel and Fred were their best friends. Nothing wrong with that, and it made for some hilarious escapades.

Yes, Lucy was friends with Carolyn Appleby, Marion Strong and the other women in their Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League.

In the episode when Ricky is waiting for a call from Hollywood about his screen test, he kept hanging up on Lucy's friends.

She said, "No wonder I haven't had any calls for days."

There were several times when Lucy was gabbing on the phone with friends. She had a bunch of gal pals but Ethel was her BFF.
