probably the least deserving of john ford's 4 oscars as director. The film has dated considerably. comedy isn't really ford's turf. even the comic relief in films like 'the searchers' or 'how green was my valley' doesn't hold up.(though the films are terrific)

shareIt doesn't age well for people who expect all movies to be realistic or idiots who are so politically correct they get offended by every little thing but for most who don't and just enjoy the movie for what it is, it's aged incredibly well. An absolute classic.

I think it ages well. You have to keep the social stuff in perspective. Dragging your wife through town like he did is definitely not acceptable nowadays, and most of the courtship/marriage rules are antiquated, but thats not really an issue.
It's listed as a comedy for a reason.
The movie starts as a drama. The first couple of quirky moments could've been excused because of the age of the movie. But the last part of the movie is full with slapstick and can't be taken seriously.

It has aged well for normal people. Snowflakes, on the other hand, will probably have trouble with it.
