I know it is a complete faux pas to even mention a remake. This is one of my favorite movies and while I would hate a remake that ruins the memory of this beautiful movie.... I would love to see excellent remake if it was done correctly.
With that said, who would you imagine playing the Anne and Joe in a current remake?
For me it would be hands down Natalie Portman for Princess Anne. For Joe, I could see Ryan Gosling doing an excellent job. Also, Michael Fassbender.....
Jack Bauer was never addicted to heroin. Heroin was addicted to Jack Bauer.
A remake? Are you out of your frickin' mind?! OVER MY DEAD BODY! How come nobody EVER suggests a remake of a truly great painting? How are you going to improve upon Da Vinci? Rembrandt? Matisse?
"You can't HANDLE the truth!" Jack Nicholson, "A Few Good Men."
I'm re-watching the movie now. These are my thoughts:
For the role of "Princess Ann," my main requirements: 1) Extremely beautiful, with an ethereal quality which is quite unusual. 2) A sort of naive innocence. 3) Rare intelligence.
My first-choice actresses: Shailene Woodley, Mia Wasikowska, Evan Rachel Wood, or Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Other possible actesses for "Princess Ann": Zooey Deschanel, Victoria Justice, or Saoirse Ronan.
For the role of "Joe Bradley," my main requirements: 1) Very good-looking. 2) Open, honest face, with a ready and genuine smile. 3) Sexy, with an under-the-surface rakishness that comes out occasionally in a twinkle in the eyes. 4) A certain mystery in the eyes.... (cannot well describe).
My first-choice actors: Luke Evans, Adam Brody (sooo handsome, and he has that open, trustworthy face that Gregory Peck had as well... but does he have the acting chops?), or Michael Fassbender.
Other possible actors for "Joe": Paul Walker, John Simm (who doesn't quite have the square-jawed look but is quite rakishly handsome and has that seductive twinkle in his eyes... sigh...), Jake Gyllenhaal, Jude Law, or Tobey Maguire.
For the role of "Irving Radovich" (although I hope to goodness they change his name!), my main requirements:
1) Good comedic actor. 2) Not too handsome to compete with "Joe" for the Princess's affections.
Obviously, there are SLEWS of actors that fit this description. Here are some of my favorites:
Jason Segel, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Shemar Moore, Nick Cannon, Chris Evans, Paul Dano, or ......
Please explain to me why should change the name of Irving Radovich? I don't get it? I always loved Eddie Albert in this movie. He was great in supporting role. Roman Holiday is one of those films with perfect cast, script, acting and has a beautiful locations. And also has perfect names for three main characters.
They did do a remake in 1987 with Catherine Oxenburg as the Princess and Tom Conti as Joe. I've never seen it, but, I can't imagine Tom Conti in the part ................. I'd love to see a remake if done properly. I have no idea who could bring the magic of Audrey Hepburn to the role, but, I have to agree that Michael Fassbender would be great. Liam Hemsworth would be okay if he was older
What's wrong with people? Why ruin a wonderful movie with a remake?? You can still WATCH it, can you? Why spit on the acting talents of the beautiful and remarkable Audrey Hepburn and fantastic and wonderful Gregory Peck?...
...and someone mentioned the despicable ZOOEY DESCHANEL? UGH!!! I almost puked just now.
Go home and watch "The Princess Diaries" and leave the classics alone, please!
...and a lot of people believe Roman Holiday IS a remake of Princess O'Rourke (1943) with Olivia de Havilland. When I started watching Princess O'Rourke I said, "It's Roman Holiday!" Roman Holiday is definitely better.
I thought Chasing Liberty was decent entertainment. Jeremy Piven's character helped save it.
