Who could play Guy Gibson in the remake?

Ive heard a lot of names thrown about but im still not sure who could pull him off. Heres a few of the ideas ive heard and what i think:

Hugh Grant... probably a good person to play the role but i wouldnt want to see him as Gibson!

Orlando Bloom... too tall Gibson was only short

Sean Bean???... i really like this idea even though hes too old and as my dad puts it... doesnt speak *posh enough*!

Ewan Mcgregor... i think, given the chance he could be pretty good!

Or maybe an unknown would be cast???

This movie could not be remade. Any attempt would be a travesty.

During the decade following WW2, the sense of national pride and cohesion still continued, because many of those who took part in the war were still occupying positions of responsibility and influence. Their mannerisms, cultural nuances, social and national outlook and attitudes prevailed.

In order to accurately replicate these, you have to be born into them. Believe me; I've seen efforts to replicate the 1950's and to anyone who lived then they are a joke.

You have only got to consider another iconic movie of the 1950's `A Night To Remember'. In all respects, except absolute (CGI) spectacle, Cameron's `Titanic' fails to give any genuine sense of `period'.

Sorry, people; you can computer-generate the planes and dams, make spectacular splashes and pyrotechnic bangs, you can dress-up modern young actors in authentic garb; but it will be just a big-budget third-millennium counterfeit.

It really depends on who is doing the remake.

Titanic was laughable because James Cameron was more interested in the fictional love story than realistically depicting the ship sinking.

Peter Jackson is the one person who could pull this off. As he proved with his King Kong in 2005, he's capable of paying proper homage to an original while -at the same time- breaking new ground

I would pick Johnny Lee Miller he has the right look & age, no problem with a posh british accent, also he is quite well known in hollywood most recently due to eli stone he would be my choice for the role anyway.

He's about 13 years too old. Gibson was only 24 at the time of the raid

well here we are after all this time and no remake; good. So why don't they tart up the original and re-release it - whoever they are.
