Am I alone in thinking Rose Mary Clooney was a knock out in this?

I thought she was stunning. She's got a nice chest to go with that voice! I know most people would prefer the thin sister, but Rosemary had some figure and she looked amazing in that black dress. I would have picked her for sure!

Oh, Vera Ellen was pretty, and very talented, but Rosemary was sublime.

She had beautiful eyes, she looks stunning in Edith Head's dresses and she was beautifully photographed.

It's kind of hard to be noticed when VE is in the same scenes.

I agree. I just felt that Rosemary had a less angular face- The other gal wasn't bad looking or anything, but I much prefer Rosemary face and body- that hourglass figure!

RM Clooney is fine. But VE's scene with Danny trying to seduce him was both funny and sexy.

I thought she looked beautiful!

On the other hand, I found Vera so grotesquely thin is was hard to look at her when she was wearing a skimpy or tight outfit.

reply

I thought Rosemary was pretty - especially those shiny glossy lips of her. However, I hated the hair style.

Clooney was beautiful in this. And she had an intelligence to her looks, if that makes sense.

As they say, it's "in the eye of the beholder", but the one common theme that my friends and brothers have always agreed on when we watch this is that tastes in women must have been 180 degrees back then from what they are today. I think Clooney is a real dog face, and the other one isn't really any better. They should change "Haynes Sisters" to "Homely Sisters".

reply

Nah, you are just looking at the wrong gals from the period. Check out Martha Vickers in the Big Sleep or Rita Hayworth in just about anything and you'll see that taste in women haven't changed all that much.

That said, I'll take Rose Mary Clooney over Vera Ellen any old day of the week. Vera Ellen was a bag of bones that could stand to take on a few pounds. Hopefully it wasn't an eating disorder since she was obviously in really great physical condition to perform her dance moves, but I'm unsure.

Conquer your fear, and I promise you, you will conquer death.

Unfortunately Vera suffered from Anorexia which shortened her life considerably.

reply

Vera-Ellen did not suffer from anorexia. She was a healthy elite dancer. She died of cancer.
