Road Hog S5 E11

The 4th highest rated episode starring Raymond Massey and Richard Chamlerlain. Character actor Robert Emhardt turns in a fine performance as a sleezy salesman who meets his fate.

Emhardt always gave an excellent performance. One of the underrated character actors of his time.

He was soooo typecast.

Well, he DID always play the oily, sleazy guy. You never saw him as a priest or doctor. But he was a fine actor.

I like the way the characters were drawn. Emhardt's traveling salesman was a mean dude with a sadistic streak. It's almost like that was the most pleasure he could get out of life. A sad case, really. That he hadn't an ounce of empathy made it nearly impossible to feel empathy for him when the tables were turned.

Raymond Massey was, in contrast, a good family man, a decent human being and caring father. One never senses any meanness in him, any "he'll get what's coming to him" regarding Emhardt. If the latter took the bait, well, that was dumb of him to believe these country folk. He should have been on the lookout anyway, as with such a loveless, uncaring personality he was bound to become a target sooner or later.
