Gidget’s Mom’s Timeless Advice on Sex and Love

In trying to console her over her failure to get laid, Gidget’s mom took her over to a framed cross-stitched quote on the wall that had been bequeathed by her own mother and had Gidget read aloud: "A real woman brings out the best in a man." Was that still considered timeless wisdom in 1959?

I also found it odd that Mrs. Lawrence:
- was so relaxed about Gidget spending her summer hanging out with a group of college boys. Kahuna and Moondoggie each recognized the danger and tried to protect her from the depredations of handsy “Lover Boy”. [Or was this more properly understood as mate guarding?]
- took Gidget’s fretting about her lack of sexual experience at the age of 17 in stride. Mrs. Lawrence’s attitude seemed to be along the lines of “it’ll happen soon enough, dear.”
