Question

Why does Eleanor act like she’s a 7 year old and why does she allow her sister to talk to her like she’s a 7 year old? If anyone talked to me like that I’d tell them to go fuck themselves

reply

There was a poltergeist event with a very young Eleanor at the center. Dr. Markway mentions something about rocks hitting her house. Whatever happened, the family blamed Eleanor for the whole thing and she bore the stigma for it. Probably eventually framing Eleanor as mentally unfit because of it all. The fact that the sister infantilizes Eleanor is a remnant of whatever happened. Ultimately the family never let Eleanor mature and grow up, always treating her as feeble minded. Despite this, she was still stuck nursing a senile and ill mother.

Because as much as she wants to see herself (and to be seen by others) as an adult, she doesn't really feel like one.
