Why is Clint Eastwood's character called ""Blondie"? He isn't blond.

Mexicans call ANY Non-hispanic person "Guero" (masculine) or "Guera" (feminine) which means "Blond" or "Blondie".

I am of German and Italian descent, with very dark brown hair, pale skin and green eyes and I am often referred to as "Guero" by my Mexican and Mexican American in-laws.

Hair gets lighter when you are in the sun (so medium brown hair can become light brown, my hair is naturally light brown and I can look dark-haired indoors and blond outdoors), and some people consider light brown to be blond.
