CW's father is the hero of the movie (spoilers)

Even though he lured Barrow and Parker into a trap, and we as the audience were steered into sympathizing with the title characters, what the father did was right. He did what every father would have done for his son: Cooperate with the law for the court's leniency in return. Not only was he right, he was also very good at it. I loved it how he gamed the dimwits that were Barrow & Parker, posing as a simple, hospitable man, while at the same time he was able to talk some sense into his wayward son and plot an endgame together with the authorities. It was a win-win for him: He saved his son's life and was able to bargain for him what amounts to a mere reprimand in comparison: Just enough time to further straighten up the young CW and prepare him for a decent life.

I can't tell if you are being clever or not, but you are correct. When Bonnie and Clyde are looked at realistically, they were murderous sociopaths. Thet were also small timers. Their biggest haul was $1,500. Much smaller than what Dillinger and the tp tier bank robbers were stealing.
