For people with children..

How would you honestly react if daughter or son planned to marry someone of a different race?

reply

Would be very disappointed.

Why? (Just honestly curious)

We live in a community (suburbs of large metro area) with lots of different ethnicities and racial mixed families of various combinations. If my family of origin had a problem with my kids marrying a different race, it wouldn't matter -- they all live out of state, around the US, and my kids would have plenty of support from friends and neighbors and others in the local community.

My brother married another race for his 3rd marriage and it has lasted the longest. He lives in the northwestern U.S. Her family is also spread out. I met several of them at a family gathering a few back and don't remember hearing about there being any racial issues.

I just wasn't under the impression race was still an issue in the U.S. and would be interested in finding out if it still is in some places and how people cope with it.

the race thing wouldn't bother me much if they were compatable and shared cultural values etc. But the age difference, and the very short time rhey have known each other, would worry me more.

reply

I hope my son marries a member of the human race.

Earth without art is just "eh."
