The Advocate *spoiler*

Why was the advocate's life spared? It seemed to me that he should have been killed along with the rest of the witch hunter's henchmen when the villagers stormed the castle.

reply

The advocate at the last minute used Udo Kier's character as a scapegoat to spare his own life. The villagers actually bought what he was saying.

reply

That whole part didn't make sense to me.

reply

Madness doesn't make sense, neither in a person nor in mobs.

"This are Nice shoes! Couldn't you afford some real Nike?"

reply

True.

I couldn't stand the advocate, scheming little weasel! If anyone deserved the chop, he did.

reply

That's part of the whole point. They were an ignorant easily swayed bunch. For years they'd stood by and watched Albino and others torture and kill. Vanessa ginned them up to go attack the castle. The advocate ginned them up to kill Christian. Everyone is always willing as long as the finger is pointing at someone else. Then they shuffle guiltily away at the end.
