How were the Lorenzos written out?

I've seen every episode of AitF in the past, and I don't recall ever hearing why the Lorenzo's just seemingly disappeared. In the later episodes you never see nor hear from them again.

There were a few episodes where Irene Lorenzo appeared and she mentioned Frank. The actor had left the show. Later the actress who played Irene, Betty Garrett, left to join 'Laverne and Shirley'. The Lorenzos were just not mentioned anymore. It was just assumed that they moved. I guess!

Vincent Gardenia who played Frank was not looking for a long term exposure and I think he went back to Broadway sooner than originally planned. I think that the ideas with the Lorenzo's were played out. Frank was too soft and Irene was too handy with home improvement for Archie's liking.
