shareWhen the movie was filmed, in 1970, Grimes was fifteen and O'Neill was twenty-two. They did not really have sex. Sex wasn't even shown in the movie. Sex was implied, though, and to today's audience, which is so uptight it makes the Victorians look laid back, that's horrifying. The more sophisticated audience of 1971 was less worried about it, and more focused on the emotional story being told.
