This movie bombed big time! - Steve

I just happened to come upon this site by accident. I saw this movie years ago aboard my Navy ship (probably around 1971). I just remember it being rather silly, with a strange, inconclusive ending. I don't think it even made it to the theaters. I saw an interview with George C. Scott years later, and he said it was a huge bomb! Sorry guys...!

Regards,

Steve

I don't think that an involved fantasy film like this would be a big seller. But I'm glad they made the movie.

It was & it remains a lyrical, melancholy, lovely little film that has a lot to say & does so in a tender, sometimes comical way. And the ending is one of the most beautiful & moving endings I've ever seen in movies. But all a matter of personal taste, of course.

I guess it all depends on the personality of the viewer. For me, it's anything but silly—although it does have a fair amount of humor, which is all to the good—and the ending is a thing of ambiguous, lovely, thoughtful poetry.
