I remember my mother taking a real good look at the DVD cover of this film with a disgusted look on her face.

The cover in question.

Back in my teens I saved up my pocket money to buy horror DVDs. I think when I got this one she started wondering what fucked up shit her son was watching.

I recall sitting there silently being judged for my choice in films.

To be fair this was probably the trashiest film I bought on DVD. It was the Wes Craven connection that made me buy it, being a fan of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream.

I didn't get into the more exploitative horror like Maniac (1980), The New York Ripper (1982), I Spit on Your Grave (1978) etc, etc until I was in my early 20s.

Keep telling yourself it’s only a movie.

That was one fucking disturbing movie. And there is a 3-disc special edition with 5 hours of special features?

In my experience parents not liking what you were about to watch usually meant it was pretty good!
