I loved the movie but my friend did not like it AT ALL...
He said that the movie started out to be okay, but when Johnny Boy's character started to show up more, he got annoyed by Robert Deniro's character and didn't enjoy the film..
He gave this movie a 5/10..
I really liked the movie, and the actors, but I'm running out of Scorsese movies to watch!!

Hating a movie just because a character is supposed to be immature sounds pretty strange to me :).
Anyway, for me De Niro's character made the movie greater than it already is.
By the way, what Scorsese movies have you watched? I could recommend you more that I enjoyed a lot.
Johny Boy was obnoxious and deserved what he got, I felt more sorry for Charlie for making an ass out of himself defending the bum. However, to not like the film because of it? The whole point was that the gangsters in the movie were just as annoyed with Johny Boy as the viewer, Charlie watching his downfall was the what the movie was all about.
Was Johny Boy Charlie's half brother? There was that bit of dialog where it was mentioned Charlie's father knew Johny Boy's Mother from way back. Johny Boy was obviously the product of a fatherless home.

Johnny Boy was annoyingly stupid and stupidly annoying no doubt. But I wouldn't go so far as to say he was the reason I didn't enjoy the movie. There were bigger issues.

Johnny Boy definitely annoyed me but I think that's what Scorsese meant for the character to be like and DeNiro nailed it. He was a goof pure and simple but Charlie had a soft spot for him even though he was holding Charlie back in Giovanni's eyes.
Johnny Boy was annoying but tell your friend that was the intent.
