Can someone explain to me... (spoilers)

...how on Earth the protagonist found the entrance to the lab?

He rides on horseback in a seemingly random direction, and finds a techie who tells him he has no chance against the gunslinger. He replies he does have a chance, like he's got a plan, and follows a river and finds himself in Romeworld. He then gets off horseback and runs, seemingly aimlessly, through various areas until just happening upon some sort of covered well. He pulls the cover off and descends the ladder.

It's ridiculous that he got there by chance, instead it seems like he knew exactly where he was going, but there's no explanation as to why. I had two theories - either he was a former employee of some kind, or the briefing contained some kind of "go here in case of emergency" bit. Neither of these seem very likely, but I can't believe for a second he ran precisely there by accident. What gives?

It's only a movie.

I literally cannot imagine what kind of a person it takes to go to a website, the purpose of which is the discussion of movies, create an account, and then respond to a question from 6 months ago about a movie over 40 years old with "It's only a movie."

I strongly encourage you to re-evaluate your life.

Apparently you have no clue how public message boards work. Besides, Westworld is just a movie not a documentary. Calm down, Cupcake.

My guess is that there were several of those "covered wells" in the park at strategic places to allow quick, unseen access by technicians.

You will notice that Richard Benjamin passes one of those wells and gives it a quick glance without stopping when he is riding along the stream just outside Roman World where the broken statue is laying in the water.

When he gets into Roman World, he's just running everywhere wildly trying to find help, and then he sees an identical covered well thing to the one he saw earlier in the stream. He now realizes it's some kind of hatch and goes in to seek help in the maintenance area.

Ahhh thanks, see that makes more sense.
Sudden influx though - did this movie get rereleased or something?

reply

Maybe it's on some streaming service. I've just been a fan of the original movie since I saw it on TV when I was about 12. I saw it trending and decided to see the new posts and found yours a little way down.

reply

But it is only a movie.

reply

Well, I was quoting Alfred Hitchcock.
