What exactly was Fredo's involvement in the assassination attempt?

That's never made clear. Neither is who killed the assassins, though I assume it was operatives of Roth, so they couldn't be captured & questioned. Thoughts?

Probably gave information on Micheal's schedule, and/or left the curtains open in the bedroom.

Good question (and I say this knowing I asked this on this board some time ago!)

I read the book 50 years ago, so I don't remember if it was explained. It would seem that Fredo *unintentionally* aided the assassins by providing intel to Johnny Ola - I find it hard to believe he would leave the curtains open for a clear gun shot.

@strntz: Thanks. The assassination attempt was one of the events that wasn’t in the book - along with Hyman Roth and the whole Cuba plot. They were created by Coppola & Puzo for GII. Please let me know if you learn something new!

If it's not in the book, then all we have to go on is what we see on the screen unless Puzo or Coppola said something about it, and I don't recall ever reading anything about that.

Judging by what we've seen of Fredo on the screen, it would seem quite likely that he felt he was passed over as he said and be bitter about it, but I just didn't see him at the point where he would want Michael assassinated over it. Getting a piece of the pie on his own? Sure. Having Michael snuffed? Well...

Where I still have a problem though is that *someone* inside Michael's house left the curtains to his bedroom open. Did Fredo do that? I can't see him doing that, and maybe there was some way that Fredo unintentionally provided intel to Ola or Roth that would allow that to happen, but I don't know how that could happen.
