Where is/was the slaughterhouse

On various websites, it seems like every location is known to fans.
The former house site, the new one, the Bagdad cemetary, the gas station, and even the grandparents house.

But where on earth was this slaughterhouse the kids see while driving ?
Is it still standing today ?

Everything is bigger in Texas. That's what I hear anyway.

I saw a video on YouTube not long ago that showed the location. It’s just an open lot now and I think they were getting ready to develop it. Sorry that I can’t recall the video.

I think it was near Bastrop, but research on it is a bit more difficult than other places because it was demolished in the 1980's I think.

This location has baffled fans of the film, who have been trying to locate it for decades. Finally, my friend PaulH was able to track it down. It's 126 miles from the next closest location from the film. The site is a former Neuhoff Bros. Feedlot. Neuhoff Bros. Packers was founded in 1932. On May 18th, 1976 it was acquired by Mickelberry's Meat Products. Although the site still includes the cattle wrangler corral and feeding troughs, I'm not sure if it's still used for the storage of livestock. The farm structures seen in the far distance are no longer visible from the site, due to the growth of the trees. However, I did venture closer in order to get a somewhat comparable "Now" photo.

The link above has photographs of the slaughterhouse as it appears in 2022, alongside photographs and addresses of other TCM filming locations.

Great website.

That's fascinating. I love then-and-now pics of really old film locations, not just horror but for all kinds of movies.
