50th anniversary next year

Maybe they'll do something special with this one next year. I understand they already released 4K UHD recently...

reply

You mean home media wise?

I doubt it. We got 4Ks from the UK, Germany and the USA just this past year. Any new release would be a major and utterly ridiculous cash grab that most collectors would pass on.

I'm not sure there is any special features that have been held back or what they could even do new for it, another documentary maybe?

I imagine this will get a few showings in a couple of theatres in the USA next year, so I'm sure some fans will get to see it on the big screen if they like.

TCM:THE COMPLETE FILM COLLECTION...HOUSED IN A LIFESIZE REPLICA CHAINSAW THAT ACTUALLY "WORKS"

EVEN I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THAT.

Yes, home media. I think they timed the 4K release poorly, now that 50th anniversary was so close. I missed the limited edition 4K release in the UK. If I had noticed it before, I probably would have bought it. I have the previous steelbook blu-ray edition with loads of extras. Don't know if the 4K release had any new extras...

Have they done a 3D version of this like they did with Jaws a few years ago? I kind of liked that.

reply

I wasn't aware of that. Fortunately.

It looked better than most recent movies intentionally made in 3D. Just added depth to the picture. Mostly what it did, by seeing Jaws on the big screen, is remind me how amazing the photography in Jaws is. That's a movie you have to watch on the big screen every now and then.
