“Your turn, Quint.”

What does Hooper mean? How does attaching a beacon to the barrel constitute revenge on Quint?

reply

I think he meant he was done with his job. Time for Quint to do whatever it was he had planned.

But Hooper hadn’t even started his job yet (attaching the end of a line to the first keg). He said it right after checking the beacon and the shark dart he had in his hands as he was fetching them from below deck.

It was not meant as an act of revenge, but simply a power play by Hooper, by seemingly making Quint wait on his very own boat, it was more for the audience.

From the very moment Quint & Hooper met, there was a power struggle at play, remember when Quint grabbed Hooper's hands and accused him of 'countin' money all your life?'

Quint was a bully towards Hooper, and the small stature and 'nerdy' look of Hooper added to that dynamic. 'Your turn, Quint' gave Hooper that pivital moment in the film, where it seems the 'nerd' is fighting back, and a mutual respect would then begin to form.

Making him wait… that sounds feasible.

It's a great moment in the movie, one that often gets overlooked, and ultimately leads to them kinda' liking each other over a few drinks, while they 'drink to our legs!'
