I noticed when the robotic Katherine Ross attacked the real woman, her eyes were black and she didn't say anything, just made kind of an animalistic sound.
Perhaps the woman being replaced had to be killed so that the android could steal her soul, something like that.just a theory.

The robot’s appearance may have just been for “horror” effect and the writers had no real transition process developed.
I might have to read the novel. Ira Levin also wrote Rosemary's Baby, and that was pretty good. I was wondering about the artist sketching Ross, too, before it was her turn. Novel might explain these things.

No. The wives are just murdered and disposed of once the clones are complete. Bobby was killed on her ‘trip’. It just so happened that Joanna made her way into the heart of the operation and found her clone, which Diz pre-programmed to kill her.
Please. It's a 50 year old movie. And this isn't exactly a huge spoiler. Anyone paying attention will realize that something is happening to the wives about halfway through. The way the women suddenly start behaving with the same, interchangeable robotic personalities is kind of a hint.
Pathetic excuse. Of course the wives are acting weird but the audience don’t know why until the final reveal… or they didn’t until the dickhead OP spoiled the movie.
