Best acting performance

The best acting performance comes from the one who's not portraying the role of a soldier- Sir Laurence Olivier (as the doctor).

My favorite is Anthony Hopkins. He maintains his gentility up till the bitter end. Brilliant.

For me, the acting was in this order-
1- Anthony Hopkins- for the subtlety, calm intelligence that he brought.
2- Edward Fox- for the fiery speech and the hilarious routines with Michael Caine
3- James Caan- for all the scenes in which he came...he was simmering...
4- Elliot Gould- for the famous cigar and the daredevil attitude.
5- Sean Connery- for the calmness and increasing involvement in the action...
I rather like this film, mainly because of the visuals and the war scenes and the cast was excellent but I thought that Michael Caine should have been given more space and the same can be said for Robert Redford as well..

Sorry but Robert Redford is a wooden actor. His best performance is one which he hardly spoke at all--as the Sundance Kid

Hopkins really shined, i thought the cast was pretty on point throughout

I read the first page, and of course all the major stars were well represented

My pick would be Arthur Hill, Played the grumpy Doctor James Caan threatens

You don't have to stand tall, but you do have to stand up!

I would agree that Hppkins was the best and that Redford was much too Hollywood. O'Neal was flat-out embarrassing to watch. He spoke his lines like he was in a high school play.

James Caan

Hopkins was the best. Didn't even recognize him. None of the "big star" characteristics (such as showing off his deep voice, overly serious expressions, close up shots of his face) of his later movies (which other big stars do as well). Really blended in well like other small time actors in the movie.

I thought Denholm Elliott's gloriously obsequious and ever so British "sorry-old-chap-but-the-fog-don't-you-know" bit was wonderful. A short scene but a great one.

Yeah, that was funny.

Dirk Bogarde stood out the most to me. He was great.
