THIS was the movie I had heard such great things about??

Christ, I gave up after half an hour. This movie was a colossal bore. Horrible, listless acting, wretched dialogue, weak plot.... If the first 12 minutes are the most terrifying, I could not imagine the crap I had coming in the rest of the film. It was not interesting, terrifying, mysterious or engaging in the least. Keep in mind, I love good, old-school horror & appreciate a slow-burn type of movie like House of the Devil (THAT is a masterpiece), but this movie seemed like half-assed student film that did not deserve my viewing.

Two great, intelligent responses.

You don't deserve an intelligent response. What a waste of words it would be.

ive noticed that when something is hyped up to me , i find a reason not to like it as well. you just didnt want to like it. you had a mental block. you probably watched it during the day with volume turned down. this movie is disturbing. but if it didnt do anything for you, then it is what it is

So, what did you find so good about House of the Devil? It most certainly isn't a masterpiece in any way.

Oh and I love it how you complain that the movie was boring yet you like House of the Devil (saying it's a masterpiece even) and you even say that you "appreciate a slow-burn type of movie" and yet you consider Suspiria boring, a movie which is ten times more interesting (and imaginative) than House of the Devil?

Oh and "weak plot", House of the Devil has a weak plot as well but you think it's a masterpiece?

It was not interesting, terrifying, mysterious or engaging in the least.

Sounds like you're describing House of the Devil.

It is also funny that he stated that "Suspiria" was like a student film. That is what I thought when I watched "House of the Devil" (because of the look of the film). What "student films" are shot in widescreen Technicolor with such amazing camera work?

reply

Exactly.

reply

Maybe it looked like a student film because it was meant to replicate the 80s?

You decided to cut your losses at 30 minutes. Well then, you're a better (wo)man than I. I stuck it out to the bitter end, thinking something, something really interesting might happen. Nope. (Although the maggots scene was kind of interesting, and I think it was further in than 30 minutes.)

This film was really a huge waste of potential.
Amazing design. Great musical theme. Promising premise. All wasted.

How can you think it's bad? Don't people appreciate cinematography anymore?
