No HBO airings

Why was this or Day of the Dead shown on HBO back in the 80s?

reply

Dawn was never shown on cable TV in the 1980s.

really? When did it make it's first outings on Cable Tv in the US? Was it shown on Network?

reply

To my knowledge - never shown on TV or cable. At least from the 1980s thru the 1990s. In America.

I believe it was on Showtime around Halloween 1998. I think they showed Romero's Martin also.

If it does not scary you know movie will- IMDB user

BBC 2 sometimes shows this movie in the UK, along with "Day of the Dead".

It was shown a few times on cable in the late 1990's and early 2000's in America, although I think most of these airings were on Showtime and The Movie Channel, so it's likely that HBO didn't get the rights to it.

I do know that TV edits of Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead exist and both of these edits were aired on Sci-Fi Channel and Fox in the early 2000's, presumably because of the Zack Snyder remake.

I saw it in 1999 on the Movie Channel on Halloween weekend

It had to have been shown on HBO at least once, because that's where I first saw it and first recorded it on the ol' Betamax.

Must've been a Romero tribute, because I also captured "Knightriders" on that same tape.

That tape got a LOT of viewing over the years.

Do you still have it?

reply

I think it was unrated. HBO had a policy of not showing unrated movies until they instituted the late night fare. Which they have now gotten rid of.
