I couldn't help but notice how Forster is pretty much quiet Jim Y Kirk, Perkins is star-stricken Spock, very flawed Bones is Borgnine and Uhura is telepathic. Not sure who the kid/cowboy would be in this comparison? Chekhov? The good doppelganger of Borgnine's cowardly Bones?

I tend to see Harry Booth as more of a Harry Mudd-type, and the two characters conveniantly have the same first names. Kate reminds me more of a Nurse Chapel or a Yeoman Rand than an Uhura, her extrasensory perception notwithstanding. Durant seems more like Dr. McCoy than Spock, as he tends to blunder upon the secrets of the 'Cygnus', rather than discover them through any investigative talents of his own. Pizer and Holland both seem to share different aspects of Captain Kirk's character, so if there is a correlation, it has to be with the 'Enemy Within' Kirk(s). For my money, Holland seems to me to be more like Spock- unemotional, unflappable, and slightly detached from the action. Thus we do, indeed, have a subtext of the original 'Star Trek' operating here: namely, that if Spock were permanently in command of the 'Enterprise', it would surely have flown down some black hole, likely never to be seen again.
