make sure you watch the non dubbed Mad Max

I can't guarantee watching MM with the original voices wil convert any haters, but I was on the fence about MM because of the super cheesy sounding dubbed in American voices. The American dub is the only one I had access to growing up, and I never really liked it that much. Once I found the original version, it felt much more real. It's hard to take heroes or villains seriously when they sound like cartoon characters.

Exactly. They are so much more intimidating and non-laughable with their true voice inflections, i.e. the pansy/limey tone.

To each their own.

Do you know a Blu Ray of the original film with the original dub, i have the trilogy on Blu Ray but only the last 2 are in Australian and it's distracting having the first one in American dub. Thanks.

I'd like to watch the us dub at least once. only australian dialog version is available here because of Sony's stupid region zoning.

While the DVD is on press 'audio' on the controller and you can switch it from Dubbed to original English (well Australian..)

Um the only one who sounds Limey was the woman who's child was almost ran over at the start. And I think she might actually have been British

reply

No that was just an Aussie bogan accent (although it did sound like a well spoken Australian trying to affect it), nothing British in it.

...then whoa, differences...

Miller said in an interview I saw recently, that he has never seen the dubbed version and never will. He was SO disappointed that it was done that way. Said he had no control over it at that time.

I think I've heard similar things, which is a shame. I think studio interference can actually be a good thing, but in this case it backfired at least artistically. I've heard that some dubbing companies will use the same actor for multiple voices forcing the voiceover actors to use these silly voices. MM American dub sounded like Mel Blanc and Howie Mandel, which is embarrassing to think that Americans would prefer that to foreign accents. Anyway, I'm glad I eventually saw the original untainted version.

I grew up with the original soundtrack, and I've only seen the trailers in the US dub on youtube. Truly, truly awful. Funny though.

The voiceover guy in particular seems intent on people not seeing it lol. He makes it seem like a cheap piece of schlock.

I do want to see the whole thing in the US dub, but I haven't stumbled across it anywhere yet.

I had to turn on subtitles. Really hard to understand.

Fifi and Goose in the dubbed version sound hilarious!

I often wondered how many of the cast actually dubbed their own voices.
Not too hard to mimic an American accent and vice-versa.

I've been searching for a VHS copy of the non-dubbed but haven't had much luck.

IDK, I guess for some the aussie accent is hard to pick up...

Go figure.

The same actor's Immortan Joe voice sounded like the Toecutter dub, I thought.

its the same actor, do you think he dubbed his own voice?

no, it's pretty easy to pick a fake accent. especially if it's one from your native country.

I checked my australian dvd. it has DTS and stereo australian tracks, but not the american dub track.

Fun fact: George Miller himself was the one who insisted it be dubbed specifically for the US release. He was afraid it would have zero chance of success in the US market with the original Aussie dialogue track.

reply

The only actor not improved by the original is Mel Gibson. He really was not very good. The movie still works cuz George Miller was amazing.
