Did Johnny deserve what Max does to him?

Who else think johnny didn't deserve what max does to him at the end? Ok, Johnny raped a girl earlier in the movie and set Goose on fire, but he wasn't present when they murdered Jessie and Sprog. Max's actions aren't justified. Would you honestly kill johnny rather than simply arresting him?

I think if Max had simply arrested Johnny, the film's climax would have been, well, an anti-climax.

Johnny murdered Jim Goose, and as a result, Max took revenge on his friend's killer.

reply

Johnny killed Goose and was part of the murder of Max's wife & child. Johnny had it coming. You can't be the bad guy and not expect to be punished.

reply

Yeah,
well they were going to write it so that he arrests the guy...
but then some number-cruncher decided that the title "Merciful Max" wouldn't sell movie tickets.

Go figure!

johnny got everything he deserved!

Funniest reply i've read in a long time:) thx for the good laugh!

Congratulations....this is the dumbest post I've ever seen on IMDB. You beat out a lot of tough competition.

reply

Yes Johnny the Boy deserved it. And if you defend him, you deserve it too.

reply

What logic did you just apply here exactly?

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

reply

See, this is why it's hard to tell who's dumb and who's a troll. I've read things similar to this in other boards.

Ok... he raped a girl and burned Goose TO DEATH... but he shouldn't die over that.

In a way, that's why it's Mad Max, he's had enough of scum like that and a legal system that can't control them. The police couldn't prevent the NightRider from escaping, couldn't prevent the gang from stealing and attacking the citizens of that small town so Johnny get's let loose. The criminal system in the movie wasn't able to deal with such things. Max had had enough, and that's why he killed the gang. Was he justified in killing Johnny? Sure, why not, Johnny was evil and the courts couldn't stop him. Max could. Why don't you think rape and murder are reasons for being killed yourself? Was Johnny justified in rape or killing Goose by burning him?

reply

"Deserved" Is ENTIRELY up to each of our opinions.

But in all that, we're losing sight of the whole point.

Max was Good Cop driven mad by the murder of his wife & son.
Whether or not any of the Bikies "Deserved" to meet the ends that Max dealt them is immaterial.

Legally, of course he was wasn't justified.

But, I agree with the point made in the quote, too. The courts were seemingly unable to deal with the situation, so someone had to step in.

reply

No, I would not arrest him, he needed to die before he killed anybody else.

reply

The man was psychopathic scum. Max gave him a chance. It was more than he deserved.

my thoughts exactly, boehm2home. i too think it wasn't justified and that ending annoyed me.

Okay, so what would you have done?

reply

Oh wow. No answer.

I guess you don't know what the hell you would have done.

Too bad for you.
