The Dark One

When the thugs come to Aunt May's farm Max tell her to call "The Dark One." A few minutes later she's on the phone saying The Dark One needs to get there and fast... Who's The Dark One? Were they trying to conjure Satan to fight in their defense?

Just watched the movie for the first time last night. Also wondering who The Dark One was as it was never explained. There seemed to be a lot of referring to characters by name that were never introduced.

What version are you watching? I heard Max tell May to call Ziggy and that is the name I heard her use on the phone a minute later.

The American version. These calls happen after they meet with Ziggy. It's right before his wife goes looking for Sprog. I'm not sure if different releases have different cuts or it's just the overdubbing. I'd really like to see the original.

Huh... I haven't seen the American dubbed version in decades. I don't remember it well enough to know if I ever heard anything that odd. I mean, Ziggy's the local... sheriff or whatever... He's the guy with the hat from the previous scene. Makes sense to call him and it makes no sense to dub over a two syllable name with a three syllable phrase outa left field. I gotta get a copy of the American dub, I thought that sort of weirdness was mostly in the dubbing of Peplum and old Kaijus.

I had watched the blu-ray edition with the default dub

The Dark One is the local sheriff we see. Originally he was supposed to be Max's partner who had a serious injury. The story that Goose is telling in the cafe at the beginning is about him. Completely disfigured his face and he was supposed to have a plastic nose.

Whether it was because of budget reasons or George Miller just changed his mind, they didn't follow it through, and The Dark One just ended up been the sheriff who is credited as Ziggy.
