I've read numerous places that Chevy Chase was offered the lead role. Is this a joke? Chevy Chase, aka Clark Griswold, as a gigolo? Surely this is just a rumour because I can't see how the producers could see him in this part, unless it became a spoof.

If it wasn't a joke I still find it hard to believe he would have been a serious contender for the role. I have a difficult time picturing anyone but Gere as Julian. Gere has that blankly handsome look that fits the GQ model style of the character. He was perfectly cast.
