Extended cut vs theatrical cut

I finally saw the extended cut recently and I have to say that the extra scenes didn't do anything for me at all. The added scenes broke the pacing, especially the idiotic LSD and guerrillas scene. The only thing they actually helped was setting up the "Where's the Winnebago???" line when John tries to desert and the line where Hulka says some recruits left the base without permission. Those didn't make sense before, but it didn't really hurt the movie.

Does anyone prefer the extended cut?

I thought the guerrillas and LSD stuff was pointless. And referring to that as just "leaving the base" seemed way off. It was easier to believe they just went into town for booze or something, when it was left unshown.

But I liked the rest, especially the nude stuff!

I also remember seeing posts on this board in the past from people who were upset at reading that the movie supposedly had "nudity" but there was actually none, and some even claimed that it - the nudity - had never even been filmed. Thankfully, now we know they were wrong!

The nude scenes were always there, specifically when John Larroquette's character uses binoculars to ogle some women showering and when Ox rips the bikini tops off during the mud wrestling. I distinctly remember seeing them way back when. The only nudity that was cut was PJ Soles' topless scene.

I like PJ Soles' boobies. Yes, I am 52.

I much prefer the theatrical cut, the only extended scene I liked was when Stillman tells the soldiers they're not gonna make it to graduation, the rest of the extended scenes did nothing for me.

I saw the theatrical and it had a scene in it where Stillman tells the crew that they will be flukes on graduation day and have to repeat basic training. This happened after they were arrested for being in the nudie bar with the illegal fighting.

Since I have not seen the extended, I should perhaps not speak on which one you should watch. But personally, I feel that over two hours which the extended comes out at is a bit too dragged out for this and the theatrical is 1 hour and 46 minutes. So my advice if someone still wants it is to go with the theatrical as it is shorter.

I'm talking about the scene where Stillman claims that Sgt. Crocker couldn't control his men and that he's the reason why Sgt. Hulka got injured, then John tells Stillman that's not what he heard which irks Stillman, he then tells the soldiers to stop worrying about what happens to Sgt. Hulka and to start worrying about graduation, then at the end of the scene he claims they're not gonna make it, then that night they go to the nudie bar.

To be honest, I never knew there was an Extended Cut, but I enjoyed the movie when it came out for sure and again, it was a case of Bill Murray riding high off of SNL and it worked, plus, we didn't have social media like we do now to ruin it
