was the book taken from the original screenplay or was it the authors ideas?

Novelizations are often based on early versions of a screenplay. Maybe that happened here. Never read it myself...

there’s a whole birthday party for the sin robbie, the clown doll moves around the house, the mom goes to the supermarket …

That happens sometimes, if there are some major changes to the script before shooting but after they start writing the novelization. The Thing is pretty different from the movie as well.
