Does anyone feel sad during the final scene?

I did because I really feel sad on Christmas night when we're nearing the end of Christmas, the scenes with Mom and Dad watching the snow fall on Christmas night makes me feel a little sad knowing that Christmas is nearing the end just like I do in real life.

The anticipation of Christmas is almost always better than when it's actually Christmas lol! It goes by so fast once it actually does arrive and the sadness of it being all over is overwhelmingly sad.

Agreed. I can casually enjoy the season early December, before the 24th meeting up with ppl all over the place in a whirlwhind. January 2nd is a blessing to recover.

I kinda feel sad, too. It's a beautifully done scene but yeah, definately that "Christmas is over" feeling.

Not really. In a way, its kind of a relief. The entire holiday season is very busy time for our family, and once Christmas is over, the hectic schedule returns to normal. Plus I do my best to retain the feeling year round that many only have around Christmas. You don't need to let the calendar dictate that.

I ball my eyes out. We are parents of a young child and you go through so much trying to make it all perfect and you are busy, chaos, stress, gun....then all of a sudden its quiet and over.

I love this movie so much because we all remember that one Christmas just as he did - I hope I give my child that.

Some day you will relish that quiet. My wife and I raised our kids, and helped raise several that weren't ours. They are all grown now, but 2 have come back to us, both have significant others, and 1 has 2 kids aged 1 and 4. Love them all dearly, but look forward to the time that the next generation takes on the laborious part of Christmas (the cleaning, cooking, etc.) so all we have to do is show up and enjoy the holiday. That's when I plan on giving one of the kids a drum set. LOL

I'm only sad because it's the end of one of my very favorite movies and we won't see any more of this funny, lovable family. It's a slice out of their lives at some idealized time when kids were kids, adults were adults, and Christmas got you robots, underwear, and maybe your heart's desire.

Christmas is always a sad, stressful time for me. I truly suffer through it and am SO glad when January 6 comes, and the tree is down the house is cleaned up, and I can relax and get back to a normal life.

I'm sorry Christmas is such a sad time for you. I sincerely hope that some day something will happen that will to make it a happier time for you. I used to stress over how much there is to do, until I realized that I can do what I can do and what I can't I can't. And Christmas will come whether I'm ready or not. Its still a lot of work, but I don't let it become stressful.

Funny you should mention getting underwear. I suddenly realized that childhood was gone when I actually LIKED getting underwear and socks for Christmas. Some might say that the end of one's childhood is s sad thing, but with adulthood comes certain privileges, like eating ice cream for breakfast and no limit on cookies.

My Mom & I were literally just talking about that. She is enjoying showing up, eating, visiting, then leaving. Ha.

Its the natural progression of life. Bittersweet.

I'm usually relieved and satisfied. I love Christmas, but since I start getting excited for it before Halloween, by the time it gets here I'm usually exhausted and ready to pack all the stuff back in the attic, lose the Christmas music for 10 more months, clean up, pay down some credit card debt, and get back to normal lol.

I love Christmas Day - our family gets together before the 25th, so it's just my husband and me then. We usually go to a movie or this year, watch holiday movies and then football because it's Sunday.

It's a nice relaxing break from all of the hectic activities.

I relate to Ralphie. There's nothing like the magical build-up to Christmas Day, but that night, when I went to bed cuddling my new doll, was actually quite comforting and peaceful. And the fun doesn't end then. We celebrate New Year's Day with family and lovely appetizers and parades and football, with all the Christmas decor still up. We play the board games or puzzles we got for Christmas. Putting the true meaning of Christmas above all else helps keep that spirit going, because that never ends.
Admittedly, as an adult with grown children, I now look forward to after Christmas because we can just relax and enjoy the beautiful season without those certain pressures that come with it. The scene at the end, with Mom and Dad watching the snow, is now my favorite scene. ; )
