One of the funniest movies I've ever seen!

This is the type of film I can watch over and over again. Some favorite scenes:

*) Monty & Joe Pesci's character in the truck with the wedding cake

*) Monty trying to lose weight & opening the refrigerator to hear the voicebox his daughter planted: "fatty fatty fatty..."

*) Monty trying to paint his model airplane while his daughter plays the violin

*) The overhead shot of the dancing wedding party crammed into that little square of backyard

*) The daughter's husband asking Monty if he can call him "Dad"

No, its not Shakespeare, but it really grows on you.

I heard Rodney's in a coma at the moment following his heart surgery--I wish him well!

i remember when i was a kid, my buddies and i used to laugh our asses of at these movies,
reading these posts i come to realise how really many fun lines and scenes it's filled of, you're right, i figure it's pretty underrated,
also pretty remarkable how everyone in this thread agrees in liking the movie, seems even the entire board,
and so, here is a line:
asian woman painted white in her face - "here is some extra money, go get some sun will you".

ghost by my side,
she went down the old deep wood road,
to where i haven't been since ages ago,
with a little light in the car,
travelled through memories near and far,
she filled a table,
this ghost lady so nice and understanding,
who but you could make sense of this venture,
the gray streets where life was,
the past i've drifted from,
with you it's not gray,
your smile turns it to a sunny day,
steps on the floor of my past days,
you come along and fills the room with new grace,
and plays with me,
untill what i've missed become reality,
unlock my door,
at night when you've been to that store,
come here and do all this i ask if you would,
and make a dream come true.

I cannot agree with you more... I LOVE this movie and one of the funniest lines in the movie happens to be the last... "My mother-in-law, for years I wouldn't kiss her face; I end up kissing her ass."

God Bless you, Rodney.

reply

It is not Shakespeare, but you do realize the last names of Monte and the mother in law, don't you?

Eh, it was ok. Every scene with Rodney Dangerfield was great but the entire subplot with JJL and Taylor Negron felt flat and came off as forced most of the time. The only time I laughed at one of the their scenes was when Julio's friend fell off the side of the house. Nowhere near as funny as Back to School or Caddyshack.

reply

It's been awhile since I've seen it, so I'm paraphrasing a bit, but when Julio is sneaking into the house -
Julio's fried: Are you sure you know what you're doing?
Julio: Relax! I know this place like the back of my hand.
Julio climbs into window and falls inside
Friend: What happened?
Julio: I just got the back of my hand stuck in the toilet.

In the store during the whole "browsing/browsers" scene: "Hey lady, if we buy two odds, will you show us your end?"

reply

When Monty sees his buxom "neighbor" sunbathing topless next door:

"She ain't worth ten million (pause) five million maybe but not ten.

I don't think this is Rodney's best movie but it has some side splitting scenes for sure, my favourite being the hospital scene. I also loved every scene featuring Rodney and his mother-in-law. "You're the inspiration for twin beds!"
