Every nation using a WOPER!

I am amazed on how prescient this movie is.
A recently read a article in the Economist about the use of AI in war strategy games. Recent advances in gameplay have enabled computers to beat world class players in 'GO'.

It is for pretty scary reading, each country is trying to come up with the best AI for use in future wars. The scary part is that they are so fast the commanders might not understand complex decisions made by the computer.

shame they cant "come up with the best AI" for something a little more constructive, like curing cancer.

reply

Game theory and modeling has been around for many decades. This was just using a computer to do what people use to do by hand.

"War Operation Plan Response"

Where's the E?

reply

Yeah that right!

My mind was distracted by Burger King.

War OPEration plan Response

Sounds like the government . Cool sounding name vs. something that makes sense.

reply

The acronym WOPR was written on the casing for the machine, there was no E, stop being obtuse.

reply

You are correct. I went from the subject line, but it was too cute in the movie.

reply

Ha! Yep, it sounds like government-ese. Reminds me of this one I read about a few years back: Robo COP (Robo Calls Off Phones Act).

reply

Ha! Now that sounds like a comic book movie
