C.H.U.D. -or- The hills have eyes ~which is better?

To begin, I know this might not be the best board for this, but I'm attempting to bring a little more life to this board, disregard this if you haven't seen either version of The Hills Have Eyes.

I think the horror level of C.H.U.D. is higher/better, the plots of both movies are different but some main factors are identical, I'm thinking if you've seen either version of The Hills Have Eyes & enjoyed, then this movie is as enjoyable, I would prefer this movie although I'm not big on horror.

Well that's a bit of a dumb question, if C.H.U.D were anything close to the level of Hills Have Eyes I'm sure it would be more well known. Go take a look at the Hills Have Eyes IMDB page, see how many user comments there are, and then compare them to the ones on here.

There is your answer.

Tikkin, has a point there.

The hills have eyes have a re-make and that brings more life in the old one to, so just because it is better known it does not meen that it is better.

I am a huge horror fan. I have only seen the remake of The Hills Have Eyes, but I prefer C.H.U.D. Hills seems to be a pop-horror remake, not entirely unlike the Dawn of the Dead remake. Enjoyable and action packed but not really horror.

Why?

Question: Which would you rather see: C.H.U.D., or Hillary Clinton in her underwear?

Answer: Neither

They are completely different types of movies. CHUD was a more sci-fi/monster horror flick while Hills is much more of a 70's normal situation becomes *beep* up movie.

I would say CHUD is the best of the 80's things in the sewer movies. (Alligator comes to mind and a few others that I cannot remember the titles of because I was 10 when I way them)

Hills is the best of the mutant family in the desert genre, if you can call it a genre.

Hills is the only film in the mutant family in the desert genre isn't it? So I guess you could say its the best of that genre, and the worst too.

reply

I know Sheppard Abbot... and let me tell you, after getting to know him, I could never see CHUD... I just couldn't... he was rude to me.

I seen C.H.U.D. in 1984 and it was real chill. I've seen The Hills Have Eyes Part II....I like C.H.U.D. the best!!

true, C.H.U.D is the greatest suburban thingies in the sewers movie, Stephen Kings It comes close to, but thats not really that kind of movie.

The Hills have eyes is also a great movie, got many flaws and an even thinner plot than C.H.U.D but it is great anyway.

At the moment i like C.H.U.D more but i seriously don't know.

C.H.U.D is most likely the winner for me thou.

1. C.H.U.D
2. Hills have eyes (original)
3. Hills have eyes (Re-make)

I like CHUD better.

Love 'em both, but I think I would rather watch CHUD over The Hills Have Eyes(1977).

I think all three movies are great stuff.

There is very little similarity between the two movies. Having said that, I prefer C.H.U.D.

I don't see how you can compare them. Do you mean the mutant angle? The mutant thing in THHE didn't become big until the remake. The original THHE's villains were more like "desert-dwelling maniacs". It was more "realistic" in that sense(I believe Craven was inspired by the true accounts of the Sawney Bean family. If you don't know who they were, it was probably around the 15th or 16th century in Scotland, and they were a family of inbred cannibals that would capture travelers and slaughter them for food. They were eventually caught and executed(they were charged of the mass murder of over 1000 victims).

C.H.U.D, itself, is a totally different beast than THHE. Pure sci-fi creature feature where the government's lackeys are dumping toxic waste under New York City, hence the underground homeless population are transforming into flesh eating mutants that prey on other subterranean homeless people and the occasional unlucky person who happens to walk or stand near a grate or manhole cover.

I seem to recall that at the time,The Hills Have Eyes had quite a bit of promotional muscle behind it.CHUD had none.Adverts for THHE everywhere, nothing for CHUD-that probably accounts for the reason CHUD aint so well known. As for which is the better movie-I only ever saw CHUD,so I wouldnt know. But I can tell you this-give a CHUD remake a proper budget,(and a good director)and it would be a real butt-kicker of a movie. The scene in CHUD where the guys with guns go into the sewers to kick some cannibal ass is a case of blink-and-you-miss-it.It should have been like the scene in Aliens when the marines first encounter the aliens.Or in Predator 2,when Gary Buseys team takes on the alien in the cold-storage warehouse.A real blast. But no-a quick poorly-filmed and edited scene that lasts seconds....talk about a chance wasted!!Some of the SFX suck too,but that was clearly down to budget.Or lack thereof.Remake please!!!Only not by Asylum.....
